Artsy Wednesday: Polka dots

Today nails were kinda inspired by a Kate Spade phone case I saw and loved:

It's very simple, but I was just in the mood from something simple this week. I used Wet n Wild French White Creme for the base, and OPI Designer De Better for the polka dots and accent nail.

Fourth of July Polka Dot Nails + Tutorial

Happy Independence Day to everyone in the US! I'm back from vacation, and super jet lagged, but I really wanted to do Fourth of July nails, so I fought of my sleepiness and did these:

I used OPI Designer de Better for the the base and OPI 20 Candles On My Cake, Ulta Blue For You, and Kiss Nail Art Paint in White for the dots.

1. Paint your nails your base color (here, I used Designer de Better.)
2. Use a bobby pin or dotting tool to make the polka dots. I think it's easier to go by rows when making the polka dots: I made the white one first, then did the red and blue ones, and then moved up to the third row...
3. Let the polka dots dry COMPLETELY. I waited around 10 minutes before moving on to the next step.
4-5. Use a toothpick or a smaller dotting tool to make smaller dots in the first dots you made. It's easier to do one color at a time: here, I did all the blue dots first, and then in Step 5, I did all the red dots. I did the white dots last.
6. Once you have done all the inner dots, let the dots dry COMPLETELY, and then seal with a top coat.

Tips:
-Wipe the extra, dried-up nail polish off of your bobby pin/toothpick/dotting tool after each dot. It makes it easier to get nicer dots.
-If your nail polish starts drying out, it will be hard to make nice dots! Pour out a new drop of nail polish when you notice the nail polish is starting to clump up or dry.
-If you don't like how the outside dots look, you put a little bit of polish on a toothpick and fix the shape of the larger dots. :)

I'm going to go unpack now...I've been putting it off because I hate unpacking, but it's time to suck it up and do it! Have a great day, and if you're in the US, enjoy the barbecue and fireworks!!!

Polka Dotted Nail Art with Milani Hot Pink + Tutorial

Happy Easter everyone!!! I got a bottle of Milani Jewel FX in Hot Pink as a part of my Spring Break shopping haul, and I used it this week to do nail art. One of my roommates said they reminded her of Easter eggs, so I thought it would be appropriate to post it today:

Nail art using Wet n Wild Tickled Pink and Milani Hot Pink

This Milani polish took some patience to use. It was nice that there was a lot of glitter in the bottle, but when I applied it, it would come on my nails in clumps. I had to put a drop in the center of my nail and then spread it on the rest of my nail.

I did 2 coats on my accent finger and then used a toothpick to pick a few pieces of glitter out of the bottle and cover the remaining bald spots. If you're interested in how I did the polka dotted nails, see the tutorial below:

1. Paint a base coat and a coat of the color of your choice (here, I used Wet n Wild Tickled Pink).
2. Wait for the base to COMPLETELY dry. Use a toothpick to pick one glitter piece off of the stem of the brush. It's easier to avoid getting pieces that have clumps of the clear base this way.
3. I started out by making a row on the bottom of my nail. Then, I put the next set of polka dots in the spaces between my first row.
4. After making my first two rows, I lined the dots in the third row up with the ones in the first row and the ones in the fourth row with the ones in the second row. I kept doing this until I finished the nail.

I actually really liked how this turned out and may try it with some of my other glitter polishes in the future. I hope the tutorial is helpful!! Let me know if you try this! :)
